Indiana State Police, Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies, Knox County EMS, and Vincennes Township Fire Crews responded to an accident Tuesday Morning on US 41 near Camp Arthur Road involving serious injuries around 9:37 AM Tuesday Morning

Officials say a 2005 Nissan driven by 21-year-old Kayden Riggins of Washington was traveling southbound on US 41 when he was passing a 1996 Mercury driven by 83-year-old Nelda Eaden of Vincennes. Riggins lost control of his Nissan when he moved into the passing lane , crossed the lane of Eaden’s, and struck a guardrail. Eaden attempted to avoid colliding with Riggins’s Nissan by driving into the passing lane. Upon impact with the guardrail, Riggins was thrown from his vehicle into the passing lane, where he was drug down the road 160 feet by Eaden’s Mercury before she could come to a stop in the median.

Riggins was airlifted to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Evansville, where he is being treated for serious injuries. Eaden was not injured in the accident.

Police say that speed was a factor in the crash. Police also say that Riggins was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. An unnamed passenger in Riggins’s vehicle was not injured.

Police continue to investigate the crash. The Southbound lanes of US 41 were closed for a time while the scene was active.
