Senator Young Comes Home To Learn About Farming Issues

Indiana Senator Todd Young was in Indianapolis recently for a conference of farmers– and heard a lot of feedback. Young was back in the state to talk about possible special federal programs to help those suffering from problems this growing season.
Weather was a big issue. Forecaster Ryan Martin was among those speaking with Senator Young. Martin says the problem is not major flooding– but the consistency of rain throughout the growing season…

 

Martin also points to both short-term and long-term excess rain as a major problem for area farmers…

The federal assistance is needed, since many farmers missed the early-June crop insurance deadline. Many farmers missed the deadline since they were still hopeful of getting a sizable crop in the ground this year.
