The Vincennes Rivet boys basketball team opened up its season with a 61-36 loss to visiting Shakamak.

The Patriots are back in action on Friday at North Knox.

 

Elsewhere in boys high school hoops last night:

Linton downed Paoli  65-56, Gibson Southern beat Evansville Central 62-55, Castle defeated Southridge 54-44, Bloomfield rolled by Owen Valley 58-40, Evansville Reitz beat Jasper 75-67, North Central downed Eastern Greene 67-52, Tecumseh beat Digger 68-35. Loogootee won its tournament by beating Clarksville 53-38 and dropping Southwestern 76-64.

At the Lawrence County Capital Classic, in the seventh place game Red Hill beat Edwards County 49-34. In the fifth place game Sa!am defeated Lawrenceville 62-31, in the third place contest Mount Carmel beat Olney 62-46 and in the championship game Marshall defeated Fairfield 83-77.

 

The IHSAA football tournament wrapped up yesterday with 3 more champions crowned. In Class 2A, Western Boone crushed Eastbrook 44-7. The Class 4A champion is Evansville Memorial after a 21-3 win over East Noble. In the Class 6A title game Carmel got by Center Grove 20-17.

 

In College football, IU won the Old Oaken Bucket game with a 44-41 double overtime win over Purdue.

Notre Dame dropped Stanford 45-24.

 

In College hoops, IU moved to 7 and Oh with a 74-60 victory over South Dakota State.

University of Evansville dropped IUPUI 70-64.

 

In NBA play, the Pacers fell to Philadelphia 119-116.

 

In NFL action today, The Indianapolis Colts host Tennessee. You can hear the game on WZDM 92.1FM beginning with the pregame at Noon.
