Marion County Health Department To Handle Complaints On Order Requiring Masks

New details are being released about how Marion County will enforce an order that requires masks to be worn in public spaces where socially distancing isn’t possible.  The Health Department will be handling complaints about those violating the mandate, which goes into effect on Thursday.  Officials say they want to educate residents on the public health order first, but they could issue fines of up to a thousand dollars if needed.  Republican City-County Councilor Michael-Paul Hart tells WISH-TV he thinks the order is more of a political statement and is not enforceable.

Other communities in the state have masks ordinances in place. Both St. Joseph County  and Elkhart County in Northern Indiana require the wearing of Masks. The City of Bloomington and Monroe County are considering the measure.
