Turnovers cost the Lady Patriots in their season opener as they fell to Evansville Mater Dei by a final of 45-28. Rivet in the defeat turned the ball over 26 times. Evansville Mater Dei was ahead 14-12 after one quarter and ran off the rest of the way 31-16 over the Lady Patriots.
Lauren Carie led Vincennes Rivet in scoring with 9 points. Kathryn Herman chipped in 6 in the defeat.
In the JV Contest, Evansville Mater Dei defeated Vincennes Rivet 38-30. Katie McGuire led Rivet’s JV with 7 points.
The Lady Patriots are scheduled to return to the hardwood Thursday at North Knox.
In other girls basketball from around the region Saturday, Eastern Greene downed Shoals 40-26. Floyd Central rolled over Evansville Harrison 63-22. Heritage Hills coasted to a 60-32 win over Jasper. Sullivan held off Owen Valley 48-39. Linton downed Edgewood 54-37. Northeast Dubois fell in a pair of game at the Corydon Capital Classic, losing to Corydon Central 57-41 and to Boonville 51-38. Mount Vernon downed Evansville Bosse 60-39.
In area postponements, Clay City and North Central, Cloverdale and Shakamak, Evansville Mater Dei and Vincennes Lincoln, and Vincennes Rivet at Wood Memorial. All of these games were postponed due to Covid-19.
