The Knox County Solid Waste Management Board will meet tomorrow morning to consider an increase in annual user fees. The proposal would take the user fee from 15 dollars to 20 dollars per year. The flat fee is charged with the property taxes of each Knox County land-holder.
The increase is needed in part to help the District find a new location for its recycling. In work done before tomorrow’s meeting, Knox County S-W-M-D director Michelle Smith brought the need before both the Vincennes City and Knox County councils. Both are favorable toward the need for the increase.
If approved, this would be the first solid waste management rate increase in just under 20 years. Even with the increase, the district’s rate would still be lowest in Indiana.
