Sheriff Clark Cottom says the facility will be built on a 16-acre site allowing for future expansion if necessary.
Sheriff Cottom says the current 54-bed facility, built in 1983, has been overcrowded.
He says pre-pandemic numbers were trending as high as 120 inmates.
