Area Sports for Thursday

 

It was a tough day on Wednesday for both the Vincennes Lincoln and North Knox Boys basketball teams.

At the Perry Spencer Tournament at Heritage Hills…the Alices lost to the home team 65-41 and to South Spencer in the consolation bracket 66-46.  Lincoln returns to action on Friday at 3pm at Tell City to face the winless Marksman for seventh place.

At the Southridge Tourney…North Knox was beaten by Danville 78-45 and lost to Orleans 47-25. The Warriors will play in the fifth place game today at 2:30 against Eastern Greene.

The Rivet Patriots put a check in the win column last night, winning at Cannelton. That final was 65-56.  Tommy Herman paced the 2-4 patriots with 28 points,  Issac Kotter scored 18 and Curtis Shake 10.

In girls basketball action…play gets underway at the Niehaus Lumber Holiday classic at Vincennes University. As usual, this years field is loaded with five of the seven teams ranked in the top ten of their respected classes. Action gets underway today at ten when 6-5 Vincennes Rivet plays 5-6 Evansville Mater Dei.  You will be able to hear that game on 97.7 and 97.3fm WAOV or watch the live stream at waovam.com.  Other action on day one has Evansville Memorial playing Corydon Central at 11:30. At one-pm, Lanesville takes on Mater Dei.  The 2:30matchup features Lafayette Central Catholic playing Memorial. At 4pm, Rivet will take on Tecumseh.  6:30contest has Corydon Central squaring off against Lafayette Central Catholic.  The nightcap at 8pm has Tecumseh playing Lanesville – which is a rematch of last years Regional final.

Play will wrap on Friday.  The 11am game will be for seventh place.  However, due to only seven teams in the tournament, Vincennes Lincoln has agreed to play in that game.

The Toby Yoho Tournament also gets started today at both Eastern Greene High School and Eastern Elementary. Class 2-A number one North Knox will take on Owen Valley at 11:15am and Paoli at 2:45.  You can hear both games here on WZDM and wzdm.com.  South Knox will also be in action as the Lady Spartns play Brownstown Central at 1pm and Bloomfield at 4:30.  You can hear both games on WUZR 105.7fm. Other teams taking part in the tournament include Jasper, Loogootee, Martinsville, Southwest Hanover, and Trinity Lutheran.
