Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center is among those to benefit from a new law authored by Jasper State Senator Mark Messmer. Governor Eric Holcomb signed into law a measure allowing military base commanders to be non-voting advisors on their local planning commissions. Further, the new law requires real estate disclosure of properties within three miles of those military bases.
The zoning law is based on a sample recommended by the U.S. Department of Defense. It is also in place in 30 other states nationwide.
