The National Weather Service has confirmed the touchdown of an EF-2 tornado Sunday night in southern Knox County. The twister was around 50 yards wide at its widest point, and traveled around 12 miles, from Decker to two miles east of Monroe City. The twister’s peak wind soeeds were just over 110 miles an hour.
The tornado damaged trees and a pole barn near its starting point, as well as moved a school bus around 20 yards. Later, the tornado damaged a garage near Monroe City. The twister lifted for good near the White River on the Knox-Daviess County line.
Weather Service officials have not made a monetary estimate of the damage at this time.
