The reconfiguration of Hart Street is now less than a week away from becoming a reality. Hart Street will be reduced from four lanes to three from 15th Street to Veterans’ Memorial Drive, with night-time work to start on Tuesday of next week.
Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum says for the most part, the public has been quiet about the change. Mayor Yochum reiterates the move is all about safety, due to nearly 60 accidents on that part of Hart Street since 2020.
The part of Hart Street under construction will be closed to through traffic during he nights of construction. Exceptions will be made for residents at Stonehenge Apartments, and in the Thompson Road area.
Also, work will also happen on Kimmel Road near Hart Street; that will be done with traffic allowed through.
