Knox County government officials are still pondering action on a space study to better house some County departments. The study comes as much of the former Knox County Jail facility across 8th Street from the Courthouse is vacant. The building was largely emptied out by the move of the County’s Community Corrections inmates to the Knox County Jail campus.
Among the groups looking at the space study is the Knox County Council Council’s concern is financing the space study; Council president Rich Chattin says the work is already underway to take space requests. The nuts and bolts of the study are in the hands of the Knox County Commissioners. Chattin knows both on their own, and with the Commissioners, they are getting an idea of a ballpark cost for the project.
The Commissioners expect to come up with some more details on the reallocation process in the weeks to come.
