A historic marker representing a Native American village on the banks of the Wabash River is planned for 1 pm Saturday, September 28th. The marker will recognize the Piankeshaw tribe’s settlement of Chippecoke (chip-PEE-co-kee).
The ceremony will happen on the Riverwalk near near the Riverview Housing Complex at 104 North First Street.
Following the marker’s dedication, a reception and presentation will be held at the Elihu Stout Building at 7th and Main Streets. The current home of the Knox County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau is the former home of the Vincennes Sun-Commercial.
