After the remnants from Hurricane Helene soaked the area, farmers expect dry weather now to resume harvesting. Helene’s remains struck the area last Friday evening, extending into last Saturday morning.
Knox County Purdue Extension educator Valerie Clingerman says the heavy rain and wind did put a break into an early harvest this year. Clingerman welcomed the rain— especially in drought-stricken areas like her home in southern Knox County.
Although the rain may have halted harvesting, farmesr were glad to see it after weeks of drought affected the water table in many areas.
