Six people were injured in a underground coal mine accident in northern Knox County. The accident happened just before one this morning; emergency crews responded to the Sunrise Coal Mine opening on Paul Perry Road.
Of the six injured, two were airlifted from the scene, and taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. The otherfour were moved to ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.
An investigation found the underground accident was a collision involving a coal mine ride. The accident is being investigated by the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration.
No names have been released, pending family notification.
