Early voters have been crowding into the lobby of the old Knox County Jail to vote early for the 2024 election. The early voting center is located across from the Knox County Courthouse on 8th Street in Vincennes.
The last presidential election came during the Covid year of 2020. Many cast mail-in ballots that year; however, Knox County Clerk David Shelton says this year, the bulk of early votes have been case in person.
This Saturday, the old Jail lobby will be open again, along with the Bicknell firehouse, and the Blue Jeans Center in Monroe City. This is the first of two early-voting Saturdays; Shelton hopes for strong voting on both of them.
Voters heading to the polls either early, or on Election Day itself, are reminded to bring proper photo I-D with them. Also, those voting should remember this year’s slate is a bit longer than in previous years.
