Banking Groups Seeking Block of Illinois Law

A coalition of banking groups is asking a federal judge to block an Illinois law banning certain credit card fees.       
The banks argue the regulation would be costly to financial institutions and is preempted by existing federal law.       
The injunction request is part of a federal lawsuit filed by the financial institutions.       
The law blocks banks and credit card companies from charging retailers a small fee on taxes and tips.       
Illinois is the first state in the nation to enact such a law.
