Incoming Knox County Councilman Jon Hillenbrand has forwarded an idea to possibly purchase the Southwest Indiana Regional Youth Village for re-use. The move is one of a set of ideas to save the County an estimated 800-thousand dollars in youth offender transportation cost.
Hillenbrand will take office as a Councilman At-Large in January; he also serves as Chief of the Vincennes Police Department. Hillenbramd notes as it stands now, the closure of the Youth Village in March 2023 is directly responsible for that large expense.
Even before becoming a Councilman, Hillenbrand has spoke with many of those involved about purchasing the property– especially at a reduced price. However, no official movement or discussion of the idea is being considered at this time.
