The Knox County Highway Department is in a sense, winterizing county roads for the coming winter season. The work is taking increased diligence, especially with colder weather moving into the forecast.
Knox County Commissioner Trent Hinkle says County Highway crews are working now toward ensuring their equipment is “winter ready. Another winterizing feature is repairing cracks in the road. Hinkle explains that is needed to prevent, as much as they can, a springtime nuisance– potholes.
Long-range forecasts call for a “La Nina” effect this winter, which could mean a wetter winter than normal for this area. With the added chance of ice and snow, with a wetter winter, the work is taking added significance this year.
