The Indiana Senate Education Committee has unanimously approved a bill to ensure a 45-thousand dollar a year minimum salary for teachers. Committee Democrats tried to raise that minimum to 65-thousand dollars, but that failed on a party-line vote.
The bill was authored by Granger Republican Linda Rogers. She tells an Indianapolis TV station her belief that the state can make the 45-thousand minimum, but can’t stretch it to 65-thousand.
The 45-thousand dollar minimum is part of Governor Mike Braun’s first budget he has presented to the Legislature.
