Duke Energy’s rate increase is now in effect, raising household electricity bills by about 8%, with another 3% hike coming next year.
The increase covers $295 million in operating costs.
Duke Energy says it will help strengthen the power grid, improve reliability, and expand infrastructure while keeping rates lower than similar utilities in nearby states.
The company has also filed for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity with state regulators, signaling another possible rate hike.
