The Knox County Commissioners started discussion on the need for a Knox County wheel tax to ensure guaranteed road funds for the County’s use.
The issue was presented by County Highway Superintendent Matt Holden. Holden made the Commissioners aware of a coming rule that will share a large amount of highway revenue to communities and counties with a wheel tax. Those with a wheel tax would be in a competitive process for the remaining funds.
The process will begin in 2027. The tax would have to be approved by the Knox County Council; that discussion is expected sometime in the future.
