Electric provider A-E-S will ask for a 13 percent rate increase from next year through 2027. A-E-S is the electric provider for areas in and around Petersburg, as well as in and around Indianapolis.
If approved, the increase would be seven and a half percent next year, and six percent in 2027. Under those increases, the average bill would raise each year by around 21 dollars per month. Also, under the plan, an added six percent increase would be tacked on to AES users due to work at the Petersburg facility.
Along with the work at Petersburg, the company claims the increases would compensate for improvements in wind, solar, and battery storage. The plan will have to be approved by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Council. That body will not rule until it has heard from affected customers. Normally, the I-U-R-C can take up to a year to rule on these type of cases.
