Cuts are coming for On My Way Pre-K— and state officials are explaining why.
Adam Alson is the director of Indiana’s Office of Early Childhood and Out-of-School Learning. He explained the changes were due to previous state leaders expanding programs beyond their means. The department announced cuts to preschool programming and decoupling On My Way Pre-K from the Child Care Development Fund, due to financial sustainability concerns.
The changes come after a waitlist was introduced for child care vouchers and preschool programs. Advocates worry that reducing state assistance for child care will undo progress in expanding options for parents and impact the state’s economy and opportunities for families.
