The Summer Food program ends this Friday, with the final five-day giveaway of food to registered families with school-age children. The program is part of the ongoing work by Vincennes Community Schools, and food provider Sodexho.
Sodexho’s Tara Lips is in charge of both the school lunch program during the school year, and the seasonal summer food program. She says fortunately, she isn’t alone in getting the road ready this summer. Lips also knows the requirements for the summer foodservice, and the school year lunch program, are different.
Over the last several weeks, since the end of summer school, the program has given out five different sets of both breakfasts and lunches for students. Over the years, tens of thousands of breakfasts and lunches have been given away through the program.
