West Nile-bearing mosquitoes have been detected in Knox County. That is the word from Knox County Health Department director Alan Stewart.
Dr. Stewart says finding the West Nile-bearing mosquito is not rare in the Knox County. Even though the West Nile virus has been found in the county, no West Nile illness has been reported at this point. Dr. Stewart says getting the actual West Nile virus from the insects doesn’t happen that often, but that it can happen.
The City of Vincennes and Knox County have been, and continue to, spray for mosquitoes. Each person can also take precautions, including use of a DEET-based repellent, and also staying indoors between sunset and sunrise. That is since the mosquitoes that carry the virus are nocturnal.
