The Knox County Commissioners have approved a move to re-start a joint committee to re-discuss the County’s need for more space. The original committee led to a proposal for a new Emergency Operaitons Center as its first step. However, the plan was stopped by a 2-1 Commissioners’ vote, after the cost came in 1.3 million dollars over budget.
Council president T-J Brink wants the joint committee in conjunction with the Knox County Council. Brink says he wants to have a committee formation draft ready in the next couple of weeks. Council member Kellie Streeter agrees with Brink on re-forming the Committee. She feels something has to be done about the issue.
Streeter was the lone “no” vote against shelving the first proposal. A draft of the new committee setup is expected to be ready by September second. Council itself is not scheduled to gather again in public session prior to its budget consideration sessions in September.
