Charles Lee Moore, aged 79, a man of admirable dedication and spirit, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025, in his birthplace and lifelong home of Vincennes, Indiana. Born to the late Dorothy Ellen Nicholason Moore and Cecil Maurice Moore on October 23, 1945, Charles would grow to be a pillar of his community, leaving a legacy of warmth, service, and commitment.
Charles is survived by a loving family. Cherishing his memory are his children: Chuck Moore Jr of Fishers, IN; Tracy Cissell of Bridgeport, IL; Debra Benton of Vincennes; Joseph Moore (Sybil) of Princeton; and Jordyn Moore (Becka) of Orland Park, IL. His siblings include Benny Moore (Kelli) of Vincennes; Delia Hawkins and Wesley Paul Moore, both of Ragsdale, along with 16 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who all held a special place in his heart. The shared joys, lessons, and time with his family will forever be etched in their memories. His journey to the next chapter follows the departure of his daughter, Kristy Moore, and siblings Joe Moore, Jim Moore, Ronald Moore, and Dorothy Lucille Messer, all of whom predeceased him.
A man of commendable sacrifice and courage, Charles served our nation with honor as a member of the United States Navy for 19 years, including time spent in Vietnam, before continuing his service in the United States Navy Reserve. As a steadfast protector of his community, he stood as the Steen Township Fire Chief for over thirty years, influencing numerous lives and shaping the fabric of local safety.
Charles’s service to his community was paralleled only by his commitment to his faith as a member of the Word of Life Church of Bicknell. His guiding principles were evident to all who knew him. Embracing life outside of his public duties, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and coaching baseball – interests that allowed him to build lasting friendships.
To know Charles was to know steadfast love and commitment – to his family, his country, his faith, and his neighbors. His presence brought a sense of security and warmth that will be dearly missed. Charles Lee Moore may have set sail on his final journey, but his story – written in good deeds, laughter, and the countless lives he touched – remains with us. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived and remember a man who was truly the heart of his community.
There will be a memorial service held at a later date. The family welcomes online condolences and fond memories to be shared at www.fredrickandson.com.
