Long-awaited work is about to begin on the Memorial Bridge façade in downtown Vincennes. The façade stones were taken down a couple of years ago, with the stones themselves sitting all that time in part of the French Commons.
The Bridge is under the oversight of the National Parks Service, through the George Rogers Clark National Park. G-R-C chief ranger Joe Herron says the condition of the structure when they took it down was not pleasant. Herron also points to 1930’s cost cutting for the façade’s anchors as a big part of the problem.
Façade area fencing will be expanded in the days to come, with actual reconstruction work expected at least throughout this winter.
