Donya “Like” Thomas passed away on October 30, 2025, in Evansville, IN, at the age of 84. Born on May 3, 1941, in Indianapolis, IN, to August and Flora Jean “Grider” Like, Donya was a cherished matriarch and pillar of strength and love to her family and community.
Donya married the love of her life, Francis “Frank” Thomas, on November 12, 1966, in Vincennes, IN. Together, they cultivated a loving and warm family. Before Frank passed away, they shared countless memories that continue to provide solace and joy to those who knew them. Donya was the loving mother to Dana Freeman (Ethan) of Evansville, IN, and Frank Thomas Jr. (Tonya) of Vincennes, IN. She proudly watched her family grow to include her grandchildren, Frankie and Giavanna Barancani-Thomas, Austin Freeman, and her two great-grandchildren, Roger and Isaiah. Her brother, Richard Like (Kathy) of Las Vegas, NV, will hold dear the memories of their shared childhood and lifelong friendship. Her many nieces and nephews will fondly remember her holiday dinners and lunch dates that Donya always made special.
Donya worked diligently as a teller at Old National Bank for 35 years, where her precision and reliability were greatly valued. Additionally, she dedicated 30 years as a meticulous bookkeeper for St. Vincent’s, endearing herself to colleagues and those she served alike. Moreover, Donya was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where she found strength and solace in her faith.
An avid reader, Donya was often found buried in a good book. She found peace and adventure within their pages, frequently sharing her favorite stories with family and friends. Donya’s culinary talents were equally well-known, her kitchen a space where everyone felt welcome and loved.
Preceding Donya in death were her cherished husband, Francis “Frank” Thomas, her parents; August and Flora Jean “Grider” Like; sisters Sue Bodart and Terrie Gognat and brothers-in-law, Robert Gognat and John Bodart, Larry Butch Thomas, Mitch Grundman Jim Campbell, Ed Vantlin and a sister in law Donna Campbell. Though she missed them deeply, she reminded her family of the importance of cherishing each day.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Vincennes Chapel. A service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at St. Vincent Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Cemetery’s Perpetual Care Fund.
