The Southwest Indiana Regional Youth Village site may be within months of reopening its doors and services to the area. The facility shut down in early 2024, but has been renovated by a group that wants to reopen the facility.
Knox County Sheriff Doug Vantlin knows it would be a big relief to have the facility back—both for them, and other area counties.
No official word on when—or it—the facility will reopen has been released at this time. Since early 2024, Knox County officials have had to set aside hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund juvenile offender transport to other Indiana facilities.
