Children’s Grief Awareness Day is a week from today– Thursday, November 20th.
The day serves as a reminder that grieving children are not alone and that acknowledging their grief is a step towards healing.
Across Indiana, thousands of children are coping with the death of a parent, sibling, or other significant loved one.
This grief is often silent and unseen.
To address this growing need, grief support organizations from across the state have come together to form the Indiana Grief Education Task Force, a collaborative initiative focused on increasing grief awareness and providing grief education within Indiana schools and communities.
The IGETF encourages schools, families, and the community to wear blue on November 20th to show support and start conversations about grief and loss at home and in classrooms.
Among those who are at the forefront of grief awareness is Good Samaritan Hospital—whose one-day Camp Memiki is a children’s grief awareness session, held each September in Knox County.
