The Knox County Commissioners are reviewing their next steps toward a reformed space study for some County government offices. This comes on the heels of an original three-phase space plan that was shelved, due to cost concerns.
Knox County Commissioners’ president T-J Brink points to Phase two of the original plan—a new Judicial Center—as part of the cost problem in his view. The Center was to take up the space of the current Knox County E-911 facility across 8th Street from the Knox County Courthouse. Brink knows the need for new court space is there, despite a lower County population.
The other two original phases included a new Emergency Operations Center on Hart Street Road, an a renovation of the current Knox County Courthouse. The original plan set aside 150-thousand dollars toward thar renovation. A recent space study committee meeting started the process toward reforming a new plan.
