Anita Jo (Thompson) Zak, 96, of Bicknell, IN went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on November 27, 2025. She was born on April 25, 1929 to Kenneth and Ethel (Gibson)Thompson.
Anita was a Christian Artist who loved Jesus, her family and her art. She also wrote two books describing her inspiration for two of her paintings titled, “The Blindman” and The Dark Christ”. In previous years, she traveled to and spoke at various local churches and organizations of how God inspired her many paintings. At the age of 18 she painted a large life size Nativity Scene which she lovingly touched up for display for 78 years. It has been displayed in many places, but the latter years in the lot beside her house for all of Bicknell to enjoy. She also painted many paintings of Christ and individual portraits throughout her life.
She started her working career at Indiana Telephone Company in Bicknell, IN as a switchboard operator and then worked administratively in the Bicknell office before transferring to the Jasper, IN facility where she retired from Verizon.
Anita shared her love and kindness with all that she came in contact with. She lived a selfless life, always giving whether it was financially, spiritually or taking food to others. She strived to fulfill the work she felt Jesus had for her to do.
She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth and his wife Callie (Noonan) and Bradley and his wife Joy (Jackson). Six grandchildren, Alana (Zak) Owens, Jared Zak, Kristina Zak (Cox), Tiffany (Zak) Davis, Nathan Zak, and Lindsay Zak. She had 21 great-grandchildren. She also had many special friends that included Jeff and Kathy O’Hara and Mona Noonan.
Anita was preceded in death by her son David Zak in 1985, her father, Kenneth Thompson in 1977 and her mother, Ethel Thompson in 2009.
Visitation will be on Monday, December 1, 2025 from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Bicknell Chapel with a service immediately following to be officiated by Rev. John Moreland. Burial will take place in Bicknell Memorial Cemetery.
