Vincennes City officials are still tossing around the probability of water and sewer rate increases sometime in the first half of this year. If an increase is approved, it must be passed by both the Vincennes Utility Services Board and Vincennes City Council,
Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum believes the raise is necessary. He also puts the blame on State lawmakers for their approval of a sweeping tax relief package. The estimate from income tax loss for Vincennes is 1.1 to 1.3 million dollars. However, Mayor Yochum says the loss total doesn’t stop there.
Part of the plan to recover lost revenue is to take a PILOT from Vincennes Water Utilities. PILOT stands for payment in lieu ot taxes. In the Utility’s case, officials estimate that PILOT payment could bring in around 1.3 million dollars in funding for the City of Vincennes.
