The state group Indiana Landmarks has awarded the Old Cathedral in Vincennes 100-thousand dollars for masonry restoration. The work will be to the original 1826 basilica next to the Brute (broo-TAY) Historical Library. That award is part of the state’s Sacred Places grant.
The area also received two other Black Heritage Preservation grants, with both going to Gibson County locations. The first is to the Wayman Chapel A-M-E Church in Princeton; they got nearly 267-thousand dollars to preserve and raise awareness of the church itself. The other award was tw0-thousand dollars for the Sollman School; the education center was built around 1875 in Gibson County.
The grants were part of an overall 3.2 million dollar grant for the state’s historic places.
