Norma Ruth “Hoover” Archer, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away in Oaktown, IN, on February 3, 2026. Born on April 4, 1936, in Fairland, OK, near the Lake of the Cherokee, to the late James Virgil and Maggie Lee “Chancellor” Hoover, Norma grew to become a pillar of strength and love for all who knew her.
In 1954, Norma united in marriage with Harland E. “Brownie” Archer in Vincennes, IN, embarking on a life journey together until his passing. She fulfilled her role as a devoted wife with grace and unconditional love. Norma’s passion for helping others led her to a rewarding career as a Nursing Assistant at Good Samaritan Hospital, where she dedicated 24 years of service, nurturing and comforting her patients with a tender heart.
Norma was a woman of faith, actively participating in the life of the Christian Church of Oaktown, IN. Her commitment to her community and her church family was evident through her unwavering attendance and involvement in various church activities. Her warm smile and generous spirit were a beacon of light to everyone she encountered.
A lover of nature’s beauty, Norma found much joy tending to her rose bushes, which were the envy of her neighbors and friends. She also had an immense love for cats, caring for them with affection and gentility.
Family was the cornerstone of Norma’s life, and she lives on through her loving children, Pamelia Archer and Robert Archer, both of Oaktown, IN. Her legacy continues with her adoring grandchild, Heather Schwartz (Chris), her beloved great-granddaughter, Evelyn Schwartz, and her dear brother, Bob Hoover of Jasper, IN. Norma was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister, Frances Jean Archer.
Norma Ruth “Hoover” Archer’s life was characterized by her resilient spirit, her unwavering kindness, and her gentle manner. We remember her as a pillar of love and selflessness—qualities that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to have felt the warmth of her presence.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Oaktown Chapel.
