A good size crowd packed into the Blue Jeans Center in Monroe City yesterday for a public hearing on future solar projects in Knox County. The meeting was held yesterday at the request of Knox County Commissioners’ president TJ Brink.
The main topic of discussion was a recommended 300-foot setback for any future solar panels installed in the future. The 300 feet was a compromise set forth in recommendations from the county’s Area Plan Commission. Those both for and against the 300 feet addressed their opinions during yesterday’s session. Other topics of discussion were tree screening for the plants, and eventual solar plant decommissioning. The hour-long discussion contained several comments on both sides of the issue.
The next chance for the Commissioners to consider ordinance adjustment will be at their next scheduled meeting tomorrow.
