High water is still the story on the White River—especially in southeast and southern Knox County.
The White at Petersburg has topped out at 8 ½ feet over flood stage. It will stay in moderate flood stage through at least Wednesday, with a forecast to drop below flood stage on Sunday. However, the flooding is ending today at Edwardsport, where the river is forecast to be back in its banks from today on.
The high White River is causing some flooding where it joins the Wabash, at Mount Carmel. The Wabash there has hit crest five feet over flood stage, with minor flooding forecast through Friday.
People in low-lying areas affected by flooding should be aware of the conditions. Also, people driving in affected areas are reminded not to drive over flooded roads. So far, at least three incidents have been reported of vehicles being swept away by swift-moving waters on the White River during this flood season.
