The Knox County Commissioners approved on final reading a set of regulations for tattoo and piercing parlors throughout the county. The measure was passed on first reading last month by the Commissioners.
Several amendments were made to the new ordinance since its first reading. Knox County Attorney Drew Porter says one is for first aid requirements for establishment workers. Porter also notes the business must provide physical evidence that their staff is first-aid certified.
Otner new regulations concern proper equipment sterilization, hand washing procedures, and a ban on mobile or temporary tattoo or piercing parlors. Finally, the tattoo or piercing parlor must have at least a 500-thousand dollar insurance policy, to guard against any lawsuits. The Commissioners passed the amended ordinance unanimously.
