Planting season continues for many farmers across the area, as excess rains have slowed down the process to get the final crops in the ground. A wet May has been followed by a rainier start to June that usual.
Knox County Purdue Extension educator Valerie Clingerman says planting progress right now is a mixed bag. However, as corn and beans and other crops get planted, another is reaching harvest– and that is the area’s wheat crop. Clingerman says a milder than normal end of winter has helped move up the wheat harvest.
As always during planting season, drivers– especially on rural roads– are reminded to watch out for farm equipment int he next few weeks.
