Vincennes City officials urge caution for anyone who may have a drinking water well in the area of what is now Kim’s Cleaners on Washington Avenue. A test done by the current owners showed some contaminated ground water on the property.
Vincennes City Council passed the temporary drinking water well ban in that vicinity on first reading Monday evening. Council president Brian Grove lays the alleged blame for the contamination on the former owners, who ran it as Fields’ Cleaners.
An ordinance was approved on first reading last night; it is now pending, and may be reviewed by a Council committee. With this, Grove reminds everyone this concerns private wells in that area– and NOT the supply from Vincennes Water Utilities.
The concerned area is bordered by these streets: Washington Avenue, 8th Street, and 9th Street; Wabash Avenue, and Sycamore and Harrison streets; College Avenue and Hart Street; and 11th Street, as well as Upper 11th Street.
