The Indiana State Police switched from Dodge Chargers to Dodge Durangos in May 2023.
They say they ordered 516 Durangos worth about $25.8 million, with 219 already in use.
However, 39 Durangos (18%) have had mechanical failures due to a faulty oil cooler.
Police say if this trend continues, they expect 40 more to fail, totaling around $3.9 million in unusable equipment.
ISP Superintendent Doug Carter has spoken with a Chrysler representative and was not given a timeline to resolve the matter.
