The Knox County Health Department reminds everyone of its status as a testing center for the H-I-V virus. The virus is the one that leads to advanced immunity deficiency syndrome, or AIDS.
The testing awareness leads up to National HIV Testing Day, on Tuesday, June 27th. Medical experts recommend everyone between 13 and 64 be tested for the virus at least once a year as part of a routine checkup. More frequent testing is also recommended if you are at higher risk. The PACE testing is available at the Knox County Health Department in the Bierhaus Building on Second Street in Vincennes. Walk-in appointments are accepted Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from eight to four. Wednesdays the walk-in hours are eight to five.
The most common ways for H-I-V to spread is through sexual contact, needle sharing, and improperly sterilized tattoo and piercing tools. Anyone with questions should contact the County Health Department at 812-882-8700.
