The Vincennes group “First City Sunrise” discussed a “hand up” assistance program came before Vincennes City Council. The referral-based service assists those homeless in Knox County with getting back on their feet.
Caroline Steinman is with First City Sunrise. She is behind a rigorous program to help those homeless clients help themselves. In the first five weeks, Steinman says the homeless center has seen some positive results.
The process includes caseworkers for each client, along with background checks and drug screens as needed. Those in the ho use are also given daily chores around the facility, along with employment and other counseling to ensure their progress.
