Vincennes Community Schools officials held the first of two expected public hearings last night for a proposed three-phase improvement to their property.
As laid our by V-C-S-C Superintendent Greg Parsley, the first phase could start as early as the summer of next year. It would include a roof replacement at L-H-S, with development of a high school culinary center, and a reworking of the building’s sprinkler system. Work would also happen at Franklin Elementary, as well as the Washington Learning Academy.
The second phase would focus on the high school again. Phase two would highlight improvements to Ader Auditorium, and a planned relocation of the L-H-S football facility to the main campus. That relocation is planned to happen within a five to ten year period.
The final phase would continue the groundwork for a new football facility at Lincoln High school, among other projects. It could also contain work at both Clark Middle School and the Washington Learning Academy.
School officials want to use around 15 and a half million dollars each year in debt service funds to finance the project. The amount is based on the maximum amount they can raise in debt service, considering the current assessed Corporation property values. In addition, a second public hearing will happen at the Board’s meeting at eight a-m on January 13th.
