Governor Braun’s office says the proposed state budget before lawmakers will not force the Indiana Historical Society to give up its headquarters.
The budget that has passed the House contains language that appears to terminate the state’s contract with the IHS, as the state owns the land where the building is located.
The IHS owns the building and leases the land for a dollar a year from the state.
The lease contract is through 2098.
