Area farmers are expected as a whole to hit their fields in the next couple of weeks for planting season. Experts expect soybeans to be planted first, with corn to follow.
Purdue University’s Shawn Casteel says the rule of thumb for planting is for soil temperatures to be at least 50 degrees. Casteel also reminds farmers to adjust their planting to the seed and soil conditions they encounter this year.
Drivers—especially on rural roads—and reminded th watch out for various farm equipment, as planting season starts in earnest the next couple of weeks.
