A non-profit Vincennes group’s dream to renovate a basketball court at Lester Square is nearing reality. The group Rotary Young Leaders is closing in on a 50-thousand dollar match to raise 100-thousand dollars to restore the court.
Vincennes Parks Department director J-R Field says the new court would also have a new location at Lester Square. Allie Bobe, with Rotary Young Leaders, is heading up the fund-raising part of the project. She says two ten-thousand dollar gifts are helping—with one coming from her own Rotary Young Leaders group. The other donation was provided by the Vincennes Moose Club; that was also for ten-thousand dollars.
The project is one of two Patronicity programs up in Knox County. The other is to help with repairs at Vincennes’ Old Town Players Theater. Both must meet a 50-thousand dollar threshold in a set time to get a 50-thousand dollar match from the State of Indiana.
