The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has opened a nearly four-thousand acre fish and wildlife area set up in Sullivan County The area is known as the Busseron Creek Fish and Wildlife Area. The dedication was attended by different state figures, including Indiana Governor Mike Braun.
The land includes the former Minnehaha Fish and Wildlife area, located between Sullivan and Dugger. The Indizna Department of Natural Resources spent nearly 11 million dollars on the project, with the U-S Navy spending over 900-thousand dollars more. The former Minnehaha site was leased to the D-N-R until 2016, when the area closed due to termination of lease rights. Plans to buy the land started in 2022, with the purchase closing last year.
The opening is the largest in Indiana in 20 years, since the nearby Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area was dedicated in 2005. That nearly eight thousand acre plot is located in Greene County, west of Linton.
